The Argentine handball team, known as “Los Gladiadores,” suffered a defeat of 34-23 against Slovenia in the World Cup taking place in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway. The match took place at the Arena Zagreb in Croatia and was close from the start, with the Argentine team just one goal behind in the first 10 minutes.
However, as the game progressed, the albicelestes missed opportunities and allowed Slovenia to go into halftime with a 15-8 lead. This result complicated Argentina's chances in the tournament, as they needed to win all matches in the Main Round to advance to the quarter-finals.
In the second half, “Los Gladiadores” tried to stay in the game and managed to close the gap to just five goals. However, a flurry of goals from Slovenia sealed the game with a lopsided defeat of 34-23 for Argentina.
Prior to this match, Argentina had qualified for the Main Round after finishing third in Group H. In that stage, they lost to Egypt and Croatia but achieved a victory against Bahrain. On the other hand, Slovenia advanced to the second round after finishing second in Group G with wins against Cuba and Cape Verde, and a loss to Iceland.
The next challenge for the Argentine team will be facing Cape Verde on Friday at 11:30. So far, Argentina has not made it to the top eight in a Handball World Cup, with their best result being an eleventh place in 2021. Meanwhile, Slovenia will face Egypt also on Friday, but at 14:00.
